Less commonly encountered, Duroplast manufacturing represents a special aspect of Kunststoff Bauer's plastics processing capabilities. In this particular manufacturing area, products that meet the highest demands in terms of function, design, appearance, and touch are produced on 5 thermoset presses (600 - 1500 KN) and 7 thermoset injection molding machines (350 - 1800 KN). Here, we manage to achieve part weights from 0.03g to 800g.

Due to its history, Bauer has many years of extensive experience in processing Duroplast and, in addition to the requisite machine technology, also has various options for thermoset deburring.

Most thermosets do not shrink, or shrink very little, and exhibit very low warpage. This allows for maintenance of extremely narrow tolerances even with thicker-walled components. Thermoset materials have gained increasing popularity in recent years. They have been optimized significantly and are now used as an economical alternative to aluminum die casting or ceramic components.

  • PF PF Phenolics were among the first synthetically produced plastics. They are thermosets that, once formed, cannot be reshaped by heating. This is why they are used, as an example, for plastic casings in electrical applications. Their clear advantage: Phenolics are very cost-effective and among the more affordable engineering plastics.

  • EP Epoxy Resin: Thermoset epoxy resin materials are created through the polyaddition of epoxides with hardeners, e.g., amines and anhydrides. After curing, epoxy resin is temperature-resistant. The temperature resistance of epoxy resin, or the continuous use temperatures, vary according to the particular type of EP as well as the method of processing. Furthermore, cured epoxy resin is weather-resistant. EP can withstand continuous use temperatures of up to 250°C, is flame retardant, and possesses good thermal stability. Epoxy resins are also characterized by excellent chemical resistance.

  • BMC: The material characteristics of BMC polyester bulk molding compounds are very close to metals like aluminum. They are composite materials based on polyester resin, glass or cotton fibers, and other fillers and additives. The mineral content is sometimes over 80%, making the material relatively independent of petroleum-based raw materials. The following material properties make BMC special: Excellent as-molded dimensional accuracy, thermal expansion similar to steel, electrically insulating, though depending on the specific composition, conductive properties are also possible. Its behavior under exposure to weather is similar to that of granite. Additionally, it has very high temperature resistance, and parts made from this material are non-melting and non-flammable.
